About the Artist

May 18
Lily has been involved in many creative activities over the years but her first love is painting and drawing. She has a great passion for painting since childhood and her first introduction to oil painting was at a very young age when she won an oil painting set in a local art competition. Since then she has studied and done many workshops with professional artists while being mostly self- taught.

She is passionate about her work and is inspired by nature and the fleeting moments of light, shade and reflections on the ever changing landscape. Lily would like her paintings to evoke memories and convey the feeling of being in that special place. She likes to capture the landscape in the way she sees it, creating personal and unique paintings. Capturing the colours and the beauty of the landscape, that surrounds us all. She invites you to experience the emotion that has inspired her using all forms of artist’s media. Painting the unspoilt mountains, streams and woodlands brings her in touch with nature which gives her a greater appreciation of gardens and flowers. Lily was born in Waterford and lived the first few years of her life in Dungarvan, although she has lived and worked most of her life in Carlow, surrounded by historical buildings, old mills, castles and small villages. Living by the sea in Dungarvan has given her an appreciation of the sea and coastline which she loves to frequently paint.

She enjoys painting from life and loves to paint en plein air and can be often seen painting in the landscape when the weather permits. On inclement days Lily can be found painting in her studio from sketches and photo’s that she has collected. On some studio days Lily finds inspiration in painting items from her house and garden which she sets up in her studio.

In 1991 Lily was founder and mentor of the Wheels of Colour Art Group. Lily has always felt there should be an opportunity for people with a disability to develop their artistic talents. To show their ability to work and exhibit alongside other artists. Lily who has tutored community groups in Carlow, Kildare and Kilkenny through the V.E.C. was also tutor for the Wheels of Colour Art Group up until 2000.

Lily has exhibited her work in many group and selected exhibitions throughout Ireland and is a full member of the Pastel Society of Ireland. Her paintings can be found in many private and public collections both here and abroad.
